2/8/2012 12:00:00 AM
Many drivers have experienced the feeling of their vehicle beginning to skid, particularly in dangerous driving conditions — such as heavy rain — that are at times experienced in Florida. Car insurance is a vital part of financially protecting you against damage caused to your vehicle should you crash as a result of the skid. However, preventative measures and an understanding of what to do when you are in a skid may help avoid an accident.

Drive to the conditions- Slow down, particularly if heavy rain has just started. This causes oil and dust to rise from the bitumen making the road very slippery, until these have been washed away. Keep an eye on the weather and adjust your driving accordingly.

What to do if you are in a skid- Don't slam on the brakes; try to ease the car out of the skid by applying only very gentle pressure, if any, on the brakes. Turn the wheel gently into the skid and straighten the wheels to ease out of the skid.

Driving safely and leaving a greater distance between you and the car ahead may help reduce the chance of being involved in an accident. Adequate Florida car insurance is a vital part of ensuring that you are financially protected, should you be involved in an accident. Arrange to talk to us for more information.
